Family Polioptilidae: A family of passerine birds commonly known as "Gnatcatchers". All gnatcatchers are native to the New World, being found in both North and South America. Gnatcatchers are close relatives of the wrens and some species are known as "Gnatwrens".

Lantern Fly (Fulgora lanternaria)

is not a fly at all but a species of planthopper endemic to Central and South America. This species get’s its name form its long protuberance on its head which at one point was thought to be luminescent. Those two eye spots on the insects wings are user to deter potential predators because large eyes are the scariest thing ever. It is also though that its huge head is also is a display to deter predators.
