Hi, I'm Andrew and I’m just a simple zoology student and crustacean researcher from Ohio. This blog centers around animal IDs so feel free to send me any unknown species (and its location) that you have and I will take my best shot at IDing it! I also occasionally post random zoology/animal factoid things.
Disclamer: none of the pictures are mine unless stated

Crested Satinbird (Cnemophilius macgregorii)
Also known as the Antenna Satinbird, Crested Cnemophilus or (incorrectly) as the Crested Bird-of-paradise, the crested satinbird is a species of satinbird endemic to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Once thought to be a bird-of-paradise due to its striking plumage, genetic work proved otherwise and it was placed in the family Cnemophilidae with two other birds. Like birds-of-paradise the male crested satinbird has more brightly colored plumage than the female who sports an olive-brown coloration. Satinbirds build exquisite domed nests and raise a single egg which is left for the female to take care of. Satinbirds are also extreme frugivores and feed solely on fruit their entire lives.
